CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION TO AVID AND EDITING ■
If a graphical representation of what is being said necessitates a flowchart or bar
graph, one might have to be created. Once created, you can import it into your project
and edit it into the place where it belongs.
Avid Free DV and Xpress have the capability to import a wide variety of file for-
mats. In addition, there are some helper applications that allow you to convert one file
type to another. Importing files is relatively easy and can even be automated using Free
DV and Xpress Pro software.
Effects
Normally, effects are not done until the program is basically cut together. But you might
find that the timing of an effect is crucial to the program. In either case, Avid effects
can be created at any time in your postproduction workflow, as long as the media for
these effects have been captured or imported (see Figure 1.13). For these purposes,
when discussing effects, we refer also to titles and transitional effects, such as dissolves
and fades. Avid has all these available, in addition to some more elaborate effects.
